We’ve joined Stripe Climate!

Climate change is at the top of the list of the many, many issues challenging humanity. Unfortunately it is a problem we’ve created ourselves. In 2021 alone we produced 37 billion tons of CO₂. Our collective carbon emissions have increased nearly 10x in the last 120 years, despite our population only having increased ~4x in the same timeframe. With the right resources and education, we still have the opportunity to reverse the damage ourselves. We’ve joined the Stripe Climate program as one of the many steps needed to help alter the course on the road to potential climate catastrophe.

What is Stripe Climate?

First, what is Stripe? Stripe is one of the largest payment processors for ecommerce and mobile application needs. We use them as one of our main payment processors here on Hovercat. They’ve created the Stripe Climate program, allowing any business using their service to contribute funds that go directly to carbon removal projects. You can learn more about the program here: stripe.com/climate

How much is being contributed?

We’ll be contributing 1% of all revenue to Stripe Climate. After consideration, this is a sustainable position for us at this time. We hope to re-evaluate in the future to increase our contribution.

The Stripe Climate Badge

You’ll find in your cart page and on checkout, the new badge showing our current contribution level and a link to more info!

How will this affect creators?

Our contribution, while calculated on total revenue of a purchase, is only paid from our own portion of the profits. There is no loss to a creator’s payout while they can still have pride that they’re contributing to taking care of our planet!

What’s next?

Faced with mounting socio-economic and political issues, it looks to be a long and difficult road to healing our damaged planet. We are constantly on the lookout for ways to improve our supply chain, reduce waste and pollution from manufacturing and contribute to subtractive efforts such as Stripe Climate. In the future we hope to keep everyone updated on additional steps we’re taking to do our part combating climate change!
